Heartbeat Theater's mission is to present simple, intimate productions of great plays — one heartbeat in the evolution of human society passing ever forward its stories.

Storytelling is a central human endeavor — a living, breathing act that not only entertains us, but challenges us and broadens our horizons. When we put on a play, everyone — the production team, the director, the cast and crew, and the audience — are intimately bound together through this shared act of storytelling.

Theater exists in a particular time and place and all the participants are there during those moments, experiencing together the same aches and triumphs, breathing together the same air. Plays cross barriers. They erode divisions. Plays recognize that hearts beat together; they demand it of us. During times when it is all too easy to feel divided and to find the ties that bind us together in our shared humanity have become frayed and worn, theater reminds us that these same stories that thrill and delight and astonish us have done so for countless others. The essential truth of our humanity is that we are one.

This year, we are thrilled to present Proof, a timeless story of grief and reconciliation, as our first offering to Pioneer Valley audiences.
